Living in 0.0, from my point of view it's no different at all after this patch. EVERYONE in 0.0 already has instas, thousands per character usually. 99/100 people I see insta to gates. I imagine it's a bit different in empire, but what does it matter there? The only thing this will change is the feel of the size of the universe, and if you want that feeling then don't use warp to 0km, stick with warp to 15.

You're entirely correct. 99% of people in 0.0 are dependant on instas. Which is why there's vehement opposition to the idea of removing them.
Have you ever seen the discussion about how increasing the size of roads doesn't decrease traffic problems? You see, if you widen a motorway, it becomes easier to use. And thus more people use it. And people go further on it. So your net result is the same, or more congestion, after a while once the drivers have got used to it.
But you can't ever reduce the size of the road, because then you'll grind the whole thing to a halt, despite the fact that the pollution is killing all the bunny-wunnies.
I use instas, and I will use warp to 0 if it's implemented. It's just stupid not to, and automatically puts me at a _major_ disadvantage in trade, industry, logistics, combat, mission running, NPCing ... .ermmm well almost anything actually. That alone should be an indicator of the scope of the problem.
I think the problem of the database being stressed is important to deal with. The obvious solution, IMO is to delete a whole load of BMs around gates with a database transaction, and leave it at that. Maybe do it again every few months or so, so it's possible to re-make the BMs you use frequently, but you won't be maintaining full region sets for lots of regions in EVE.
However I think that 'instas' are having a negative effect on EVE game play. Consider for a moment, if we took it to an extreme, and implemented an 'instant teleporter' anywhere in EVE. OK, it's perhaps a bit far fetched, but the 'easier to travel' analogy could be stretched that far.
Say, I press a button a station, and my ship and my stuff is wherever in EVE I want them to be. Would you consider this an improvement on EVE gameplay? The market would all move into one station, gradually, because everyone would shop there. All the mission runners would be in the single best station for their faction. And alliances would fight daily over the best patch, but never be able to hold it because 'opposition' is only 30 seconds and a few isks away from being able to launch a massive attack.
But if you ever put that feature in, you'll a whole lot people whining about how stuff is pointless and boring, and a whole lot more moaning about how if you take it out they'll quit.
I think instas should go. I hope the dev team will not bow to 'make my life easier' pressure. I'm somewhat afraid that they will though.
